Did anyone here train with the Canadian Airborne Regiment?

Post by Rubes »

I've read a few posts by Rangers here stating that they trained with the CAR before they were disbanded.

For those that have, what were they like in terms of training and attitude? Were they well trained and motivated? They seem to have been Canada's elite unit in their time, and I'm hoping to hear whether anyone has any first hand experience with them.

I've been doing some reading on the CAR and I was curious about this.

Thanks.

I spent a couple of weeks with the 3rd Para Coy, RCR, in Petawawa in Jan 95. they were good to go. They may not have had as good of equipment, or near the training budget, but their attitudes and values were right up there with ours. Hard fuckers too. Best deployment I think I had. train during the day, drink all night for national honor, for two weeks straight. they liked us too. They were "sister" units with the 82nd, and said the 82nd were a bunch of snivelling cunts, but we checked out. Good fucking dudes that I'd fight beside any day.

After I became a pilot, I was in NY with a Cavalry unit, and worked/played with the Royal Canadian Dragoons (cavalry) habitually. they were real professionals too. great scouts.

Yea I did. They came to the US and some of ours went there. Liked the hell out of them. As KW said, budget was tight for them but those boys were game for anything. Hated to have to pick up the bar tab though....holy mother of god did those boys drink.

Thanks for the replies Ranger Abell9 and Ranger KW Driver. I'm glad to hear that they live up to the reptutation they have here in Canada (among the military folks at least) for training, motivation, and alchohol consumption.
