Ship Date Change
Tomorrow I am schedule to go down to MEPS for my second time.
I've taken the ASVAB, physical and spoken with a councilor. I politely gave them a time frame I would like to ship out. It was not availible so I left and said I would be back later to check again. Tomorrow is now later.
It seems that with and Opt 40 in the contract it is not possible to get a ship date anytime after 5-6 months of singing the contract.
My recruiter says the best thing to do is sign the contract they give me (with opt 40) and when the time gets near for me to ship he would extend it to a later ship date.
Is he blowing smoke up my ass? He says its much easier to extend a ship out date than it is to get into the Army.
I was just wondering what you all thought. Is the best route to sign what they give me, and get it extended, or should I just decline and simply come to MEPS again at a later date?
Thanks and sorry for the lengthy post.

can't give a hard answer right now because things are changing for the better.
the Army is working with potential shippers right now by letting them keep their enlistment options if they need to reno their contracts.
if you want an option 40, you either need to clear your schedule for the next 5 or 6 months or make a decision.
my personal opinion is to get the contract. i don't know what you have going on, though.
better not be a fucking chick, though.

Shut the fuck up.
SFC Hit It said it all, bitch. Fuck off.

And God shall wipe away all the tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death. Neither sorrow, nor crying. Neither shall there be any more brain; for the former things are passed away. - Revelations
SFC_Hit it, if I may interject.Velcrocivic wrote:SFC Hit It, I was not trying to come off sounding like a greedy bastard. The counsulor was promising me all these things, bonus money, college loan repayment etc. etc. But when I went to sign the paper, stuff they were going to give me wasn't there. I felt that they were trying to pull something over on me just to get me to sign. Since I didn't feel 100% about the deal, I decided to walk. I do understand money should not be a factor, but if I sign up for something that I don't like I would only have myself to blame.
Velcrowhatever, one of the first things you need to learn before you join theArmy is when an E-& in the United States Army tells you to Shut the Fuck up he means you need to shut the fuck up. It does not mean explin what you meant or give reason and excuses.
It's all good.

I didn't join the greatest army in the world just to put some cabbage in my pocket. I joined to be part of something bigger than me, something I could be proud of and to SERVE. There are way too many "takers" in this world and not enough "givers". You are a prime example!
