I just finished reading Generation Kill by Evan Wright. I would very much suggest this read for several reasons. Wright is a free lance writer for Rolling Stone Magazie and you would think his slant would be very much "anti'. War. Not the case. About the 1st Recon USMC. Good look at the mind of our young warriors.

Officers are administrators.
They are rarely an accurate portrayal of the actual leadership of a unit.

Understood, Ranger Kilted Heathen. It just seemed hard to believe that there are officers in Marine Recon that for example, don't know what "Danger Close" is or how to call in artillery. It made me wonder if the author was exagerating and if he's not, well then like I said, that's a frightening thought.

Thanks for the info Rangers and Veterans. I'll look into those books.
I was browsing the web and came across this book.
"To Fight With Intrepidity: The Complete History of the U.S. Army Rangers 1622 to Present
by John D. Lock, Harold G. Moore, J. D. Lock"
By any chance has anybody heard about this book or read it?
Thanks again for the help.

I am currently reading Shadow Warriors by Tom Clancy and Carl Stiner. Although I cannot vouch for it's authenticity, it's quite entertaining.
There is a comical part where there is mention of how the special forces detachment sets up an aerial re-supply of food to an outpost.
They dreaded getting the larger livestock(like cows) because often the cows would come in by parachute and they would 'moo' the entire way to the ground and might alert the enemy. The cows were so heavy that often they would break a limb and have to be slaughtered/quartered on the spot. This was undesirable because of the need to 'beat feet' away from the drop zone to keep its location a secret from the ememy.
Anyhoow, I think it's a pretty good read.

Excellent, CSM Kelso is an ex Rhodesian trooper.Seabass1-4 wrote:Not Ranger history, but check out Pamwe Chete. History of the Selous Scouts.

Last I noticed he was CSM at the Infantry School.
Their doctrine on pseudo-terrorism was particularly effective.
