A few questions regarding Rangers...

Post by Rubes »

First, I am a Canadian citizen. Can I enlist with an option 40 contract with only a green card? If not, is there a waiver to get around this, or will I have to enlist in the Army, wait three years to get my citizenship, then apply for Ranger training?

Another question... Can you reenlist with the Rangers after the first 4 years?

Sorry if these have been answered. I used the Search tool a lot, but couldn't find the answers to these specfic questions.

Thanks,
Paul

So I can't get a waiver?...

Damn, not being a US citizen really fucks things up. Makes joining SOF a lot harder...

Thanks for the link, I feel stupid now. I'm going to do some more reading before making a further ass out of myself...

edit: Can I still become a Ranger after getting citizenship, even though I didn't enlist with an option 40?

I read the Prequalifications For An Option 40 post, but still don't understand something... If I have prior service does that immediately eliminate any chance of becoming a Ranger? The only way for me to get citizenship is through the armed forces, thus prior service. I know I can't get an option 40 if I have prior service, but is there another way to go through Ranger training?

Oh hell yea! There is a "Virtual Ranger" site where you can get qualified in no time and they don't care if you are prior service. If that fails...well, ask the DEPS here, we have covered this before no less than 100 times. I got my Tab through Correspondence and the honor system. It was pretty tough but well worth the effort.

Correspondence Course

Post by Smoke »

Ranger Abell9,

Your post reminded me about what a guy I work with told me.
Quote, Any one can get a Ranger Tab, even women all they have to do is take a correspondence course. End quote. He also tells he was a DS in the 82nd. I don't really believe him but he's fun to listen to.
