Right, last I'm saying on this (honest)

The UK is a small island with a population of approx 60 million and the crime rate with burgalries and robberies is relatively high (possibly more than the US - in proportion)...these crimes are in mainly urban areas, often fuelled by drugs and drink. Us having the ability to carry guns will not help THIS country, it won't deter robberies and similar crimes but give the criminals guns, the gangs guns, the carjackers guns, the drug pushers guns and on and on and on. It would also give guns to a population and therefore accidents and errors would occur - I have heard a few times of kids killing kids in the states through mistakes, negligent discharges... needless deaths. I have seen countless footage and news reports of what can happen when guns are readily available and that is why I don't want us to have that right. Anything else? Why not... mace? Tasers? (all currently illegal here) - give our people something...yes - but I do not want untrained, stupid people, ignorant people and all those in between to have their finger on a trigger!

You keep them, you need them (!) - you have a whole different country than here, founded on different rights, with a different vision - which i recognize...can you not see why it would not work here or why I think it wouldn't... do your views have to be so insular? Your template of a society and it laws won't always fit in elsewhere, as ours wouldn't with you.

Excuse me going on like a broken record....

Not to start the flames up again, but your country would not have a rising crime issue if the guns were not taken away in the first place.

Yes, reintroducing them at this point would be bad, but it got that way because they were taken, not because they aren't there now.

Go get a beer.

We continuing???

Right...........

Only got stats for year 2000 (they'll do for now!) :-

Total crime

USA
23,677,800
80.06 per 1000 people

UK
5,170,31
85.55 per 1000 people

Murdered

USA
12,658
0.04 per 1000 people

UK
850
0.01 per 1000 people

Murder by firearm

USA
8,259
0.02 per 1000 people

UK
62
0.00 per 1000 people

There are other stats (robberies and theft where we are worse than you, as the overall crime rate shows at the top... mainly as we're theiving bastards!) - I just wanted to highlight the gun related crimes.
Our figures are poor and I don't want them increasing and believe what we have now in society is right for us.
