Rangers,
My request for a medical waiver has been denied due to "degenerative changes" in my shoulder. Does anyone know of anything I can do now that would allow me to join or is this the end of the line?
Thank you Ranger Lunch. I hope there is another way I can get in. Although there is some problems in the shoulder it doesn't prevent me from functioning normally. Functioning normal enough to kick the shit out of the doctor that fucked it up in the first place. I'd actually like to abide by the "eye for an eye" standard and heel hook his ass so he walks with a limp for the rest of his life.
Fortunately for me, my degenerations were/are mental and my wife would probably agree that they have increased over time. But seriously, you have my sympathy. Sometimes, things are just not meant to be and that may well be the case with you now.
Thank you Ranger Bill for replying. I spoke to the recruiter last night, he said if I found a civilian doctor who would say I was alright it would clear the military doctors from liability and I would have a chance. I am having my records sent to a doctor now who will hopefully cooperate. He has to review the records before he will see me. Hopefully I will hear something before the end of next week.
Hello again Rangers. I am scheduled to see a civilian doctor June 2nd who will hopefully be willing to cooperate. I told his office I would sign anything they wanted me to that would relieve them of responsibility. Thanks again for letting me participate on your site.
Rangers. The civilian doctor I saw today says the xray of my shoulder showed a large amount of arthritis. Although he believes it could give me trouble in the future he says he is willing to help me anyway he can. I have an appointment to see the recruiter again on the 11th of this month to review my records so they can find out what they need from him.

Bud, I wish you luck. I do. But I have to tell you. The road you are taking aint easy and any problem you go in with will be accentuated many times over.

I'm not the way I am because I was a Ranger - I was a Ranger because of the way I am.
¿Querría usted el primer redondo en la rodilla o la cara?
The road goes on forever and the party never ends.
Thank you Rock Island Ranger for your reply. Everything I have heard, read, or seen about the path I hope to take looks as if it will be very difficult but the rewards of succeeding also seem to be great. From what I can tell, I feel that the rewards seem to at least be worth an attempt on my part. I had the honor yesterday to speak briefly with a retired Special Forces Sergeant Major at the local license office. I noticed his purple heart plates when he pulled in and when I approached him I saw he also had a special forces receiver hitch cover. He said he retired in 93' after 31 years in the Army and loved his time in special forces.
Also, thank you Ranger Grumble and Grunt for recommending the book Chosen Soldier by Dick Couch. I am almost finished with it now and have enjoyed every page so far. I also read The Mission, The Men, and Me by Pete Blaber a while back and it was also very interesting.
As far as my medical issues go, the recruiters here are reviewing my records and are supposed to let me know what they need from the doctor I saw a few weeks ago.
Once again, thank you to all the Rangers who have responded and given advice. I appreciate it very much.
Hello again Rangers. It has been a while since I updated the situation. My medical records, along with a letter from a civilian doctor, were sent to meps 4 weeks ago today. I spoke with the recruiter on Friday and he thinks we should hear something definitive by the end of this week. He also told me that it looks as if best case scenario will be that I am allowed to join but with neither the 18x-ray nor the option 40 contract. I will update again when I hear from meps. Thank you again Rangers, for your service, advice, time, and site.
Rangers,
I went to meps again last tuesday for my second try at a med waiver. I was informed yesterday that I was denied again. It doesn't seem as though I'll be able to make my way into the military. If anyone has any other ideas or suggestions that might allow me to enlist I am open to almost anything. If not, I appreciate your assistance, ideas and comments and would like to stay around anyway. I thank you most for your service and wish you all the best.
As I wrote earlier, some things are just not meant to be. The thing is, as one door closes to you, you can focus on opening others. There is a world of opportunity before you and the choices you make will affect your life forever. Best of luck to you.
