There is no extra dollar.Slowpoke wrote:The night Desk Clerk at a hotel goes on break and has the Bell Boy cover the desk for him. While he's gone, three people come in and rent one room. The Bell Boy charges each $10.00...$30.00 total. When the Desk Clerk comes back, the Bell Boy tells him that he rented a room and gives him the $30.00. The Desk Clerk tells him that the room is only $25.00, and to take $5.00 up to the room, and give the money back. The Bell Boy takes five $1.00 bills out of the cash register, but on the way up to the room he can't figure out how to split the $5.00 evenly between the three people. So, he puts two of the $1.00 bills in his pocket, and tells the people that he's overcharged them, and gives each of the three people back $1.00.
Each of the three people have now paid $9.00 for the room.....
3x9=27.....the Bell Boy put $2.00 in his pocket....27+2=29......
Where did the other dollar go to????????
Each man's 9 dollars *includes* the bell boy's thievery.

To move their armies, the Romans built over 50,000 miles of roads. Imagine driving all those miles! Now imagine driving those miles in the first gasoline-driven car that has only three wheels and could reach a top speed of about 10 miles per hour.
For safety's sake, let's bring along a spare tire. As you drive the 50,000 miles, you rotate the spare with the other tires so that all four tires get the same amount of wear. Can you figure out how many miles of wear each tire accumulates?

You have 4 tires, but only 3 are in use at any time. So, for even wear, each is only on for 3/4 (0.75) of the total distance. 0.75 x 50,000 mi. = 37,500 mi.

There are several letters which are well known to occur doubled in many words. Double L, double T, and double S are all pretty common. But can you find words containing the following doubled letters?
