Joseph Kennedy was no better person than Al Capone...he just had better timing.

Joe Kennedy was an alcohol entrepreneur during a time this country exercised oppressive, ultraconservative legislation. If he did in fact deal in illegal booze(its never been proven) during prohibition, he's alright by me. The only thing that is known is that he had advance warning that prohibition was going to be repealed so he bought up the import and distribution rights of some major whiskey producers. He'd already made a fortune in stock trading prior to the depression.

As for Capone, he only went after rival criminals, and usually after given them fair warning. He ran soup kitchens during the depression and paid for medical treatment for people injured in the crossfire of gang hits.

The 18th Amendment was wrong, and anyone who defied it could qualify as a patriot in my eyes, just like anyone who would defy an abolition of the 2nd Amendment could.

So then, would you feel the same way about those who do the same for Marijuana? After all, Marijuana was legal until the 1930s, and it wasn't even banned by Constitutional Amendment.

Someone somewhere told me a rumor that Joe Kennedy sold his soul to the devil in order to gain fortune and fame for himself and his sons. They said that he wanted a president in the family more than anything else. The devil being the devil, the agreement was paid back by the untimely and violent ways two of his sons died, and the fact that his other son could never run for president because of his 'incident.' The rumor got legs with the death of JFK, Jr. and the drug/rape/other incidents over the years all involving Kennedys.

Everytime a Kennedy makes news I think to that rumor. There sure seems to be a lot of tragic stuff in that family.

Actually three of his sons died violently:
Joe, Jr: Killed in an aircraft wreck in WWII.
JFK in Dallas
Bobby in LA.

Screw him. Hope he died painfully and slowly.

Americans should have thrown him in a cold, dark river years ago to drown.

That would have been justice for the fat fuck.
