Amen to that! Welcome Rage...outstanding introduction. You and "Flipper" the swim monkey (aka: swimmerkid187) need to pair up....I can see you two easily becoming Ranger Buddies in a few years.

Also, you might send a PM to a couple of our Phillipino Rangers. Their forum is found at the bottom of the index page. They might be able to give you a little history/info on their arm of the Ranger world and the powerful effect they are currently having on terrorism in that neck of the woods. I'm sure that any of them on this site would be pleased to share their knowledge with you.

Be safe over there and good luck with your many pursuits, both there and back in the USA.

Well, I returned from the Philippines about a month ago. Been busy working and catching up with friends. Learned alot about the culture and life over there. Also was fortunate enough to go to a Philippine Army camp and ride around on this... (Pic below)

(I'm on the right... Ignore the fake badass pose) And go to the shooting range and fire M16's  It's a fun country, definitely still developing, but outside the cities it's pretty nice. I'm still very interested in being a Ranger, but i've also been trying to get into West Point (got a nomination already, working toward an appointment). Anyway, just thought i'd check in.

Rage,

Its great to hear that you had a great time. This is a wonderful country, and does not deserve the reputation foreign media paints it to be.

You should have gotten in touch with me though. I could have taken you to see Corregidor. What Army camp have you been to? Was that photo taken in PMA?
If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid.

Dapat po nag-link up tayo. I was living around Lipa City, but was fortunate enough to go all over. I was able to see Corregidor, great history there, one of my favorite trips. The Army camp was a small place a few kilometers outside of Calauag, Quezon. The pic was taken there. I visited Baguio, but we had a tight schedule and couldn't make it to PMA. Also went to Subic and saw how they really developed the base into a tourist town. Here's a few pics of Corregidor for anyone interested.

Pic 1 Text - "Pacific War Memorial
Erected to the Filipino and American fighting men who
gave their lives to win the land, sea, and air victories
which restored freedom and peace to the Pacific Ocean area"

Pic 2 - Map of Corregidor (The last stronghold of Allied forces in the Philippines)

Pic 3 Text - "Brothers in Arms
In these hallowed surroundings where heroes sleep
May their ashes scatter with the wind and live in the hearts
Of those who were left behind.
They died for freedom's right and in heaven's sight
Theirs was a noble cause"

I'm impressed with your Tagalog. The usage of the word po shows good breeding (rare nowadays). Whoever taught you, taught you well.

Great pics! It seems you've been here for more than a year. Did you get to meet anyone from the military?
