My Savage
Looks nice!
I did my M4 each time I went over to the box... but, never a bolt action stick. Now... what about the turrets on the scope? Should I be concerned about the lines and numbers? I think they look gay with black strips where the numbers are...
Did you paint your rifle fully assembled or did you spray each item individually?
I will get started on mine today.... that gives me this afternoon and Friday for it to dry... before I shoot on Saturday.
I have the Krylon stuff.. same thing I did my M4 with. Held up very well.

Well, I have everything to paint it... sand paper, masking tape, xacto knife, stencils, steel wool, satin clear coat, etc... but, it has been raining for the past two days.
With all the humidity in the air, I didn't want to spray it, and it not be cured before I shoot on Saturday. Come rain or shine, I will be shooting on Saturday with this pig...
I will put up some pictures when I am done. The only thing that concerns me, is the turrets. I don't want to paint the numbers and marks on the turrets... then again, black knobs sticking up off of a tan gun looks GAY...
I noticed that you painted your turrets... that looks really good. Can you still read the numbers and the reference lines after you sprayed them? If so, I will do the same thing. I just don't want black turrets sticking up to ruin my mall ninja rattle can paint job...

T Minus 10 hours before I am sending rounds down range out of the Ugly Duckling.
The Tactical Bolt handle did not come in today... so, it will have to wait. I have not painted the rifle, due to the fucking humidity... if it's not clear tomorrow, I am only gonna shoot groups out to 200 meters. I wanna build initial DOPE on this thing, in decent weather.
Stay tuned...

Ok... The Ugly Duckling is finished. Well, all except for the Tactical Bolt Handle. It has not gotten here yet.
I finished the cursory paint job today, and will make some adjustments on it as I go along. I am pretty pleased with how this rifle turned out. It has been WAY too damned windy down here to get any decent groups out of it, but it does shoot very well.
Here she is, getting all dressed up.
First, the tape...

Then the primer...

Base coat... (I live in Florida, so I went with OD Green as my base)

Taking shape...

Good for now...

I love your little rifle, but one thing bothers me - is that a hint of ACU pattern in the camouflage? :)
On a serious note - I'm trying to find one of these chambered in 30-06 for hunting. No luck so far.

I tried a bit of digital type pattern to mix it up a bit... note the little "Mikey Mouse" patterns in black? That is for the HH6... her being a Mickey fan and all...GoldCoast wrote:I love your little rifle, but one thing bothers me - is that a hint of ACU pattern in the camouflage? :)

As for the Savage Model 10, you sure can't beat them for the price. No, it's not a Remington, but quite frankly... I really don't care. This thing shoots straighter than I can shoot... that's a plus!
I want to pick up a .30-06 as well... but my next rifle will be a 7mm WSM.

I thought the 7mm was just a GAY hunting rifle?
Nice job D. Sunday, we'll see if the paint fubar'ed your dope...If the winds cooperate...we can reach out and touch....I do love the distance at that range............

There is a HUGE difference between 7mm and 7mm WSM... I am also looking at the .270 WSM actions.
The paint shouldn't mess up the way the gun shoots at all. I never got a good zero on it, it was way too damned windy. But, I did smack the steel gong out at 565 yards a few times though...

I was joking about the paint thing....but hey, if my "Glorified Hunting Rifle", with a 7mm 150 Grn. projectile, hits a hadji (or a rabid monkey for that matter)at 675 yrds...right in the breather...is the damage really THAT different for him than a 308? I just dont think the stud is really gonna care...GSXRanger wrote:There is a HUGE difference between 7mm and 7mm WSM... I am also looking at the .270 WSM actions.
