I appreciate the words of welcome.
Ranger Jim: I completed the verification packet this evening and returned it via PM to Ranger Steadfast. The only trick was getting my DA photo downloaded from AKO so that I could submit.
Ranger K. Ingraham asked if I stayed in the Reserves after AD. I did. I continued in the USAR until August of this year when I finally retired. When I left AD back in 1992, I attempted to join the Tn ARNG because I wanted to be in a Combat Arms unit. As most of you are probably aware, while the ARNG has a mix of CA/ CS/ and CSS units, the USAR is almost exclusively CS and CSS.
I gained a real insight into the "political nature" of reserve service when the Chief, Officer Assignments for TN ARNG told me "No Thanks". The curious thing was that he told me that If I joined the TN ARNG it wouldn't be "fair" to some of the guys that had started in the TN ARNG since I would be more competative for promotion. My reaction - "FAIR?, What does Fair have to do with the Army?" Anyway, I ended up in the USAR. Necessary service to the operation of the Force but not a lot of chance to run through the woods, have fun, and shout "hooah".
