SOCNET Refugee

Post by Kurt V »

I've lurked here for awhile, but as SOCNET is my usual home I haven't posted. But after two days of jonesing with no SOCNET I figured I might as well give my keyboard a workout. My background:

Bio:
1973-1977: 2/504 PIR, Ft. Bragg
1977-1979: SOTI, Heidelberg, Germany
1979-1980: 1st COSCOM (Airborne), Ft. Bragg
1980-1992: 190th AVN, Olathe, KS
1992-1998: Drill Sgt., Washington, Missouri

Conflicts & Operations:
April 1980: Operation Eagle Claw
December 1989: Operation Just Cause (Attached to 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation)

Wish I could tell you but that information is classified.

Just kidding!

I was in the SOTI (Security, Operations, Training and Intelligence) shop with 1st COSCOM at that time and was part of the group that worked on figuring out what assets were needed to complete the operation. For the record, I was not on the ground in Iran during the attempted rescue. However I had been in Iran earlier. Also for the record, almost none of our recommendations for the operation were used. It turned out to be more political than military and every branch of the armed forces had to have a piece of the action.
