1st Bat Ranger from 1974
I believe that I was one of the lucky ones to be brought in when the reactivated the 1st Ranger Battalion in 1974.
On my first day I was introduced to CSM Gentry, while "the cow killer" was serving up BBQ. My platoon sergeant was SFC Art Cobb (yes, he went on to be the Ranger Regiment CSM) and he made me his RTO and he taught me how make "mo-co"
I was a winter Ranger (class 3-76), and we thought we were lucky that in Florida they let us eat our fill on Thanksgiving... as many of you will remember, by Florida, food is all you think about (above sleep, sex, clean, dry, warm, everything!), but none of us really considered that after chow we were being to the airfield for a jump... I've never seen so many men throwing up, for so long and not stopping, even after the jump was complete!
I'm proud to be an Airborne Ranger. I always have and I always will. I'm glad I found this group and look forward to the association.
