DRat-

Welcome to the site. Please post an intro in this section and tell us a bit about yourself when you get the chance.

Your family and/or fiancee can come to your OSUT graduation. Assuming you have an Option 40, you will next proceed to Jump School. Your fiancee can hang out in Benning all through Jump School and, assuming that your Plt. Sgt. doesn't have a problem with it, you can see her in the evenings and weekends.

The day you graduate from Jump School, a couple RIP Cadre will pick you up and transport you straight to RIP. You won't have time to see her then at all.

Normally, you are given some leave (a few days to a couple weeks) after completing RIP. This is mainly given to you, so you have time to move your belongings to your assigned unit.

If you make it to Ranger Battalion, you will have Block Leave. This means that you will take leave when the rest of your Battalion takes leave. Aside from an Emergency Leave, that will be it.

Your job, as a Ranger, will prevent you from having a 'normal' life with your fiancee. Sure, you will get many evenings and weekends off...but you won't usually know when they will be occuring. You will be deployed on a moment's notice for training exercises and probably real-deal situations. When this occurs, you won't even be allowed a phone call.

Bottom line: if you have a strong woman and a sound, trusting relationship, you'll be good to go. If not, you'll loose her. FWIW, I was married throughout my Ranger tour and had no problems at all. I do, however, have a remarkable woman.

Good luck.

I understand after Airborne graduation, people who don't have RIP can go on leave but I'm wondering if you have RIP in your contract, after you complete it if you do when you would be allowed to go on leave?
After RIP I rode in the back of a truck over to 3rd Batt. Block leave was still a month or so away. I don't remember anyone getting to go on leave after RIP, but then again I have a shitty memory. It was about six months from the time I left for basic untill I got my first leave.
