Sitrep- TRGtom

Post by TRGtom »

Rangers, it has been a while since I’ve last updated. On Friday I graduated OSUT and have been a holdover since. Overall OSUT was disappointing. Please listen to those on this forum when they speak on getting in your own PT and finding motivated guys. I surrounded myself with good people and did some good PT in the bays most nights with them which has been a huge part of staying motivated, as being here for 6 months surrounded by people who don’t care, as well as Drill SGTs who don’t care, has been tough. Overall though, I’m still honored to wear the blue cord, I just wish the experience was more challenging and just. Either tomorrow or Friday I will be headed to Pre RASP. It is a bit surreal to know that i will be heading over there and that it’s here, but I’m prepared to go there and do my best. My last APFT scores were terrible and inexcusable. I have been working them and the last progress I had was as follows.
PU’s- 57
SU’s- 79
2 mi run- 13:20
I will try to post an update after I arrive at Pre RASP. The rumor mill here in OSUT from guys who have talked to people currently in RASP on pass has been pretty crazy, and in the past has led some dudes to dropping contracts. I’m going in with the attitude that I’m just gonna give it my all and experience this for myself. Thank you for the extremely valuable information offered on this site, and to those who act as mentors to guys like me and other mentees on this site. More to come soon.

Rangers, I am currently in Pre-RASP on my second day here. It’s awesome to finally be somewhere where everyone is motivated, including the cadre in comparison to OSUT. It’s looking like the next class up is in about 2 weeks so we should be knocking out an APFT soon. I took my psych eval today and spent the whole 3 hours we were marking true or false fighting to stay awake. Apparently I answered one question out of a million self harm/suicide questions with the wrong answer, and was talked to by the Sgt who administered the tests. I assured him it was a mistake as there is no where else I’d rather be and that I have no intentions of hurting myself and that I must have read it wrong, so he told me all was good and he understands, and that he’d note it in there that it was a mistake. Let this be a lesson to everyone reading this. Attention to detail. I swore I answered everything properly yet I didn’t and hopefully it doesn’t bite me in the ass. Other than that. All is good. Come to Pre-Rasp knowing the creed, which includes the pauses, and take what people say here with a grain of salt. And always do one extra rep for the Airborne Ranger in the sky.

Good SITREP,

Have you been able to link with KesslerB or BigBoss? There are currently two other individuals from the site that should be at Pre-RASP unless they've already classed up. Remember to stay as focused as you can at Pre-RASP, your current goal should be getting to RASP uninjured and in good shape. I'll continue to mention it whenever it comes up, but be sure to be doing some form of injury mitigation. Pre-RASP and RASP will eat away at your body, while others are joking around in the bay you could be spending your time doing push-ups, stretching, and preparing yourself for the next day.

As for the psych eval, what's done is done. Best to put it behind you and focus on your 25 meter target: classing up.
The rumor mill here in OSUT from guys who have talked to people currently in RASP on pass has been pretty crazy, and in the past has led some dudes to dropping contracts.
It just wasn't for them. Don't let rumors sway you or get in the back of your head. At the end of the day, it's just you and your end goal. Comradery loves misery, link in with the other guys and you'll have someone to cover your back as much as you cover theirs.

In the case you do link in with the others from the site, tell them to post an updated SITREP.

Ranger Carpenter, I’ve known KesslerB for a good little while now, he’s a solid dude and I haven’t been able to speak to him since he is currently in phase 1 and any interaction with them results in both parties being dropped, but he is there and I’m sure he’s getting after it, preparing to go to Cole range soon if I’m correct. I have faith that he will crush it. I have been using my time in Pre RASP to get to the gym and get in supplementary PT when we’ve been released, and I’m sure I could be spending a lot more time doing recovery so I will make sure to get after it. So far, everything about this place has lived up to what I have heard and the experience I was looking for. Looking to class up within this month (lots of dates have been thrown around, so it’s unclear right now). More to come.

Thomas,

Thank you for the update, I was wondering myself if he had classed up. That only leaves BigBoss unaccounted for. Hopefully, he is in the class with KesslerB and is successful. Definitely don't risk compromising yourself or KesslerB if he's in phase 1. The risk of getting dropped is always present.

Once again thanks for the update. Looking forward to hearing from you in the future.

Thomas,

PreRasp is a great time I'm sure you know to finalize preparations for RASP. Don't PT yourself into the ground, RASP is going to do that for you. What you should focus on is studying Ranger History and stretch as much as you can and start making friendships with the likeminded people around you. When you workout, don't focus too much on lifting weights, just worry about calisthenics and running. Best advice I can give you for when you start the selection process is to take it ONE DAY AT A TIME. Don't worry about what you did the day before, or what is following you the day after. Take every day and moment for what it is, good training and insight into what you're made of. Let the weak fall by the wayside, and use them as encouragement to remind yourself of why you're there. Don't fucking quit. RLTW!

Roger, Ranger BlueLiner.
Today we were informed that 95 of us will be classing up this Friday and moving over to RASP 1. I am extremely excited to start this journey and get the ball rolling. There is still lots of work to be done with my push-ups but I will remain persistent and do what I have to do to succeed. KesslerB made it through Cole range and is currently in phase 2. I’m sure he’s doing well and crushing it. To anyone reading this, please pay attention to what these Rangers are offering you when they harp on attention to detail and PT and history. The list goes on. This site is here to help you so take advantage of it. I’ll update as soon as possible.

Great SITREP,

Good luck in RASP, like Ranger BlueLiner said take one day at a time. Always remember your end goal. Remember all the Rangers that have been in your shoes before you, and what you aspire to be. All the sweat you've put into getting to where you are now is for nothing if you quit. Make the sweat worth it and find a way. Thanks for updating us on KesslerB he's making us proud and we're rooting for him. Best of luck and I look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Rangers, it has been a while and I apologize due to my inactivity/Sitrep on what’s been going on. I went through 2 classes and was med recycled from both and dropped after my 2nd recycle. I’ve since been stationed at Ft. Polk and was able to try out for the scout platoon in my battalion after I got here and have spent the majority of my time with them. It hasn’t been the experience I envisioned when I joined, but I don’t say that negatively. I enjoy a lot of what we do and feel a sense of having to constantly prove myself here. Looking back, if I could have done anything differently, I would have gone through RASP stronger and more durable. I spent the majority of my time in Pre RASP/RASP fighting overuse injuries to my legs. Mileage and strength is something I would have emphasized more going into it looking back. I wasn’t by any means slow, but within weeks of showing up, not being proactive and more durable as an athlete began to make something that I felt was my strong suit (running) begin to become constant icing and rolling, until I couldn’t keep up with the class on runs or even bend my knee. To all of those who are going into RASP, the bare minimum will not carry you. Being strong and durable before you show up is crucial. In OSUT you may not run more than 5-10 miles a week, and although you may be meeting the standard in terms of time, it won’t matter if you end up injured and can’t keep up with those around you. Looking back, I joined the army to be a Ranger and that is still what I am going to do. Our leadership is good about getting guys to Ranger school and I am hoping to secure a slot this coming month to PRC here at Polk or up in Ft. drum. To all the mentees on this forum, listen to what these Rangers on this site are saying. Prioritize good training/recovery and take note of the successes and failures in these threads. More updates to follow.

Tom, first I want to say that it takes a lot of grit to come back here and say you didn't make it. You owe us nothing, so I appreciate you giving us an update. I can't tell you the number of folks here we lose track of simply because they don't update us.

You are not the first person to go to RASP and not come out with how you wanted. How it goes from here, like before, is mostly up to you. As you saw, not everything is under your control. If you want to go back I hope you do so and your command supports it. Service in the Army is above service in Regiment. I know that is easy for me to say, but I didn't join with an OPT 40 or clear understanding of what I was doing. I had orders for the 101st and one of my Drills helped me volunteer from basic, no idea how they did that. They just did it. So that being said, sometimes your career is in the hands of others and outside of your control. If it wasn't for some random MP drill sergeant at Fort Sill, I probably never would have had my shot at being a Ranger.

Use the time to improve yourself. Keep working to be a better person and soldier. If it is slow, do some self improvement through classes or whatever else. Check in with us here. It needs to not be lost that because your service currently is not to your standard... it is not worthless. It is an incredible thing to serve during a time of "peace" in a volunteer force. If you are not in our Discord, please DM me. Come hang out to be around people that are like-minded and have desires to serve in the community. You've proven that at least.

Please let us know as things progress!

Thanks for the update Thomas.

At the end of the day you went further than most people and then came back for seconds. We appreciate you coming back on here and updating us. As Ranger Disinfertention said, lots of guys fall off the face of the earth and we never hear from them again. Stay resilient, heal up, and you'll find your way back.

Rangers, I was able to get into PRC here at Polk and have been in it for about 2 weeks now with several other teammates. I have a date for APR 23rd to head to school. More updates to come.

That is awesome. Take advantage of the opportunity. And be grateful you will get your shot at school in the summer and not winter!
