Ranger Silverback,

I found this on another board and setup Firefox with these parameters:

From: http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/for ... ht=firefox

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return.
Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining
maxrequests
Firefox installation default is to make one http request at a time. When
you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds
up page loading.

2. Change as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30.( This
means it will make 30 requests at once.)

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.
Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0".

This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on
information it receives.

It really does help.

I liked it, but had to punt it because I couldn't get it to work with numerous business applications. It wouldn't run on half of my companies' websites.

Geezeeeweeezzeee,

Will it overload a system? I need something like this.......it takes me like 3 days to post or log in. (I think my ROM-BIOS chip is acting up again) By the way, if any of you are running low on 5.25 5 MB floppies, I've got a bunch of extras.

Paratrooper Firefinder,
I also did that, and while it does help out wih some web servers, it also does sort of strangle other older web servers. What it does, is it sends a lot more requests for images and data to the webserver, and with older ones, it will overload it, and in turn, some images and info will not display properly.

With some servers it works great, but with others, its really a pain because half of the page wont load.

I suggest sticking to the original about:config.

Thursday, thanks but since I do this kinda crap for a living, I frankly don't care if someone has a broke-dick server. It works for what I use it for.

Ranger Flesh Torn, open up a black tab, and type in about:config

then scroll down until you find the network.http.pipelining option and you can double click on it to change its value.

Firefox is excellent. I use it at home and at work. The pop-up blocking is great. Using Explorer was a never ending battle.

I have one site for doing businesss that I cannot use Firefox on because the company wrote a Java Applet that only works with MSIE. It is a real-time database lookup and purchasing system.

This is sort of stupid because the whole hype/appeal about Java is that you could write an application in that language once and it would work on any browser without making further modifications - you didn't have to write hooks into each browser.

No biggie, I use Firefox for everything else except this one function.
