Hello everybody im in the recuiting process right now, im 24 and finally got done with some legal matters and I'm eligible to go in. Anyways its been a longtime goal of mine to be a part of the Ranger tradition and help out this less than perfect world we live in. I got an 88 on my asfab and right now they are running the court checks for me, my main question is what exactly an opt 40 contract entails, i know the army can screw you over if you dont get the exact schools you need in your contract, so that right now is my main concern, to know what i can or cannot get in the contract to make sure i at least get the chance to try for my dream, thanks to all and good luck in whatever your doin in the military.
Welcome! An Option 40 contract means that after OSUT, you will attend Jump School. If you complete that, you will be given a chance to pass RIP (Ranger Indoctrination Program). If you make it through RIP, congrats...you've made it to a Ranger Battalion, where the hard stuff starts. If you fail, you belong to the Army and they stick you where they need you. The Ranger gig is voluntary (Sua Sponte)......it's a little different (OK, a lot different) than most assignments.
