Thoughts of a holdover

Post by TyDolla » October 26th, 2019, 6:40 pm

The date is Saturday 10-26-2019. I’m currently at Airborne Hold waiting to go to Pre-RASP on Monday. I graduated Infantry OSUT on the 11th of October. Ever since I have been anxiously waiting for my chance to do what I’ve been preparing myself the last two years for. I’ve been doing some reflection on how far I’ve come. By no means was I Ranger candidate material god forbid Infantry or Army material a couple years ago. This brings me to my next point. I recognize the importance of not losing sight of the end goal. Just because I’ve made it this far does not mean I can settle down and take it easy. My journey has only started, OSUT challenged me in some aspects but it was only preparation for what’s next. It is the foundation of the house under construction so to speak. You more than likely will at some point want to be done with the training environment. Things like not having some of the freedoms others going straight to a duty station might enjoy will cross your mind. The thing is you will eventually get those same privileges, you just have to complete training that many others would kill for. It’s only a few more weeks, all things shall pass and you will reap the rewards of being patient with the process. Give it your all, don’t give yourself a way out of the path you chose, don’t sell yourself short see it through to the end and never...never quit!

I think this is an important post you should keep up with during your time now at a new holdover in Pre-RASP. Don't have to divulge specifics of the course if you are not able to, but keep posting your thoughts. I hope it helps you drive on and conquer your challenges coming.

I’ve been at Pre-RASP since last Monday. I’m amazed by how many people are so ill-prepared for what’s to come. Many didn’t/don’t know the Ranger creed, Ranger history, Airborne Ranger in the Sky, etc. I also notice the guys who sandbag PT and don’t give it their best effort, more importantly the cadre notice as well. I’ve been trying to separate the squared away guys from the rest and align myself with them. I didn’t do much productive during my free time last week so I’m making time for the gym and extra PT now. It’s important to keep your mind dialed in and the gym does that for me. Many go play video games at the recreation center or just waste time in general. I’m making it a point to stay focused this week and the next so I’m at my peak when I class up.

You've got your head in the right spot and you are already seeing what many OPT40s and RASP attendees report back to us. Keep up with like minded folks, learn what you can, ask questions, and execute. Check back in with us soon when you have time.

I’m expecting to get off profile next month and class up after New Years. I’ve been hitting the gym and eating good consistently since I last checked in here. Most of the guys here failed their class up PT test, some of these guys coming here are just awful. I’ve figured out who’s squared away and who’s not it’s not very hard to tell. For now I’m just focusing on PT and mental conditioning so that I’ll be in the best possible shape when I class up.
