Introduction - Conner

Post by CH525 »

Hello Rangers, my name is Conner and I am a 17 year old senior in high school. I am hoping to enlist with an 11x option 40 contract. I have not yet spoken to a recruiter, but will visit my local recruiter sometime within the next week. I measured my APFT scores today, and they were as follows:
2 minute pushups: 48
2 minute sit ups: 52
2 mile run: 16:32
pull ups: 8

My scores are poor due to my own laziness and failure to train. I rarely ran more than twice a week, and often went weeks without running at all. Now that i have begun training on a frequent basis i will make sure my scores improve rapidly. I boxed and kick boxed from last January until August, and have recently began again. I have also started training Jiu Jitsu as well. I am very excited to have found this site and am amazed at the wealth of information.

Welcome young man. In regards to your PT scores, keep in mind that we all had to start somewhere for our preparations. We weren't scoring 300 our first go-rounds either, it was hard work, dedication and pushing ourselves past the limits of the mind that got us here.

What is refreshing is to see your humility and integrity in posting your actual scores even though they suck at the moment. You're off to a good start in realizing that they need drastic improvement and admitting it. Good first impression.

Work hard. Don't quit. Work harder.

Thank you for welcoming me to the site Rangers. I ran 1 mile timed today in 6:33, about 40 seconds better than two weeks ago. I also visited my local recruiter but they were not open, so i will be returning tomorrow.

Thank you Ranger Cams. I will conduct a practice APFT every Saturday to keep track of my progress and to hold myself accountable.

I would limit your PT testing to every two weeks. You'll see more improvement as long as you're working hard, and won't get bored or as easily discouraged with lack of improvement on a weekly basis.

Understood Ranger Cams, i will test every two weeks.

I visited the recruiter yesterday to fill out the necessary paperwork and returned today to get my pre screen ASVAB scores. My GT score was 127. When my recruiter called to see if 11x option 40 was available he was told that no 11x contracts were available at all. He told me that he will continue to check for it and will contact me when it becomes available.

Time is on your side, Conner, you are in school until at least June 2017. This will afford you time to work on your PT. And from what your initial PT scores reflect, you will need the time to prepare yourself. Never, never quit!

Conner,

Good on ya for maintaining your focus and dedication to getting what you want. Now that you have your option 40 in hand, the rest is up to you. You have five months to prepare for OSUT, so don't waste your time. You will be going through OSUT, Airborne, RASP in the Georgia heat and humidity. Do what you can to stay hydrated, as becoming a heat casualty would not be a great start. There is a lot of great info on the forums about what to expect once you get to Benning, but everyone's experience is different. Work hard, stay focused, but above all NEVER QUIT!

Updated APFT 1/28/17
Pushups- 52
Situps- 62
2 mile- 14:42
Pullups- 10

Rangers, I discovered recently that the previous distance I was using for my 2 mile run was really 1.94 miles, meaning that my previous two APFT scores were not accurate and that this was the first legitimate 2 mile run i have conducted. I am happy with the rate my run is progressing, but need to dedicate more time and effort to pushups, situps, and pull ups.
