Rangers, I failed to complete fast roping and have been dropped from the course. I have also been denied the oppurtunity of recycle because of the circumstances of my drop. I appreciate all the help and guidance that has brought me to this point, I am sorry I did not capitalize on it, and allowed fear to stop me. I was scared and didn't trust the situation. Had I done more to prepare myself in my free time, to gain trust in myself and equipment, I would have performed. I never thought the event would be held the way it was.

Any one following me who has a great fear of heights, be prepared. The fast rope event will come, and you will be uncomfortable. Do what you can to prepare for it, practice on the ropes hanging in the area, so that you don't freeze like I did.

I received a lot of good comments from my leadership and Cadre on my performance in the course to that point, but the Regiment is the greatest because of its adherence to standards, and I failed to meet one, so it is only right I was dropped. Going forward I am going to learn rope, strive for the excellence that has been shown to me during my time around this unit, pt alot, and be the best medic I can. Since it is a drop and not a voluntary withdrawal, I am eligible to come back in 6 months, and I hope sometime soon I may be afforded the opportunity to do that. Part of me is happy I made it past the first week and Cole Range, the rest of me is angry I threw that away in fear. I couldn't step off the ledge, I was frozen. Don't be like me, get yourself to make that leap. Be a lion. Lead the way.

I will overcome my obstacles in the mean time.

Roger Ranger Jim, I was fortunate enough to pick up orders to the 82nd, 1st BCT. A few guys got Ft. Polk and Drum and not on jump status from what I understand. I'm told I'll be at headquarters for a bit before sent out to a unit. Striving for the best, hopefully I'll be out to a line unit quickly.

In the Airborne Division, the Medics are usually assigned to Battalion HHC. Do well and stay in touch. Never, never quit!

You can still do great things there. Don't give up. Learn a lot and you can do well. Maybe even earn yourself a spot to Ranger School
