Verify a DD214 criteria?

Post by blueskiesalways »

Hi all, hope this finds you all well and cranky as ever. I have a question about verifying a persons "Imminent danger, or war zone status as pertains to our qualifications to be a VFW member. Without making a long story longer, how would I go about verifying a persons qualifying status? The copy of the DD214 that was presented is somewhat unreadable. After spending time with this, hmmmm, individual i'm calling bullshit...This was all I could find
"Who’s Entitled to a Copy of a Veteran’s DD214?
The Privacy Act of 1974 limits access to a veteran’s DD214 to only the service member (either past or present) or the member's legal guardian; only these persons will have access to almost any information contained in that member's own record
Any thought on how I can discover Their area of service?

FOIA. Freedom of Information Act request them. You'll get a copy redacted of SSN/DOB/HORA. The rest will be there. Just look at how several of the poser hunter websites do it.

I'm not stupid, I'm crazy...there is a difference.

All the information you need is here:

If the person in question has a 214 that's unreadable, they can file a request for a duplicate. If they won't, and you think it's a BS story you're being fed, do it for them using the SF-180.

And yes, we're still cranky as ever...... :D

Don't grant the membership until they've been cleared hot. Even if he or his buddies try to pressure you with bullshit.
