Chain left for OSUT

Post by Steadfast »

Chain's parting words to all (shown in quote below).
DEP's are welcome to post here with a few words to Chain & pay 50 push ups for each of the 16 mentioned (total 800 pu's).
Chain wrote:A critical Ranger skill (I'm assuming) is the head count...knowing how many guys you have with you at all times. As I will not be able to wish you all good luck on your ship days, I'll wish you good luck by pushing out 50 (+1) for each of the DEPs following this thread (I had this idea at 0415 and at the end of this post two hours later I'm 5 DEPs in). If I count correctly, we have 16 (17 including me) DEPs currently following this thread: seanman122, boomer478, proudlosers, smsst14, Vantage, Coltrain, devon.223, NoXcuses, Giant, Futbol, woody, Bronco, gwill7, Mello Yello, labod, and Irvin14: If you push for me, I'll push for you (and since I might have already pushed for you)! I will complete them within the next 24 hours. Would be kind of neat to see this maybe continue (those who ship push out as a message of good luck for the DEPs to follow), but this isn't my show; the good Rangers who volunteer their time will make that call.
As Ranger Jim tells us, NEVER, NEVER [FUCKING] QUIT!

Nick, it was great getting to know you and I wish you the best of luck. I'll knock out the 50 (+1) push-ups for each DEP as well, and will report back when completed.

Looking forward to reading Chain's comments as he enters OSUT. Mentees, You are not doing what Chain accomplished. He said he did 50 pushups for each Mentee. That looks like a lot more than 50 pushups.. Never, never quit!

Rangers, this is my SITREP checking in.

Thus far I have completed OSUT and Airborne; I'm here at Pre-RASP waiting to class up within the next two weeks for RASP 1. I've been doing my best trying to earn my scroll every day I'm here in the military.

I plan to go back and reflect on the more important sections of my experience thus far in posts similar to what chuck3/75 did- reflecting on reception, OSUT, Airborne, etc. (individually)..but for the time being, this is the BLUF.

OSUT
  • I graduated from Foxtrot Company 2/58 as the Distinguished Honor Graduate and as the "Iron Trainee" with the highest PT score in the company.
  • I unfortunately earned only a Sharpshooter qualification on my rifle qual, shooting 33 of 40.
  • I was afforded the opportunity to employ the live rounds of all the weapons at OSUT, with the exception of the M136 AT4 (M18A1 and HEDP M203 included)
  • I served in every leadership roll afforded to you as a basic trainee (Team Leader, Squad Leader, and Platoon Guide). My longest time was as a squad leader for eight weeks, and as a Team Leader and PG for a week and a half each
  • I carried every weapon and piece of equipment our platoon had at least once during training (M4, M249, M240, M136 AT4, SKEDCO, Tripod + T&E, etc)

My final PT test was as follows:
    PU: 90
    SU: 95
    2mi: 11:43
Airborne
  • I completed Airborne smoothly, without any spot reports, being recycled for any reason, and most importantly: injury free.
  • I made 5 jumps out of a C130 onto Fryer drop zone... two under the T10D, and three with the T11.
  • I made one combat jump and one night jump, in addition to our three Hollywood jumps.

Pre-RASP
This is where I currently am; I am expected to class up early September. I will elaborate more on this stage of training when it comes to an end.

For now, this is my SITREP, Rangers. Ranger hopefuls: I will elaborate on some experiences and tips that may benefit you to know within the coming days.

I enjoyed reading your well written sitrep Paratrooper Chain.

Keep your focus on your 25m target (getting your tan beret), keep doing your PT, stay out of trouble & never, never quit.
