Introduction-David

Post by D_Atomis »

Hi, my name is David, I'm 19 years old, have graduated high school and work Timberland, A retail store.

I enlisted in the Army two days ago. I have an 92Y Contract with option 40. I ship out for basic on March 17, 2014. I'm looking forward to being a member on the site and learning a lot more about Rangers.

Welcome. You, my friend, have picked one of the most thankless jobs and one of the most necessary jobs all in one. The grunts can talk all day about how they are the most important, but they won't get very far without beans, bullets, band-aids, money and mail. Guess where you fit in. This is one of those MOS's that if you take good care of the men, it will pay back in spades. (soft-skills of the world, UNITE!..) Don't be afraid to do some wheelin' and dealin' (but not stealin') When I was in in Panama, one of the joe's that was fluent in spanish had convinced a local to trade 50lbs. of fresh fruit (bananas, pineapple, mangoes, etc.) for a one case (read: box of 12) of MRE's. We were in the field and, quite frankly, tired of having those dreaded things for meals. The supply guy wouldn't give up a case because he didn't want to get in trouble with the 1SG. I tried to convince him that the 1SG would much rather have fresh fruit, but to no avail. But I digress..

I have a good friend that did the job before going to EOD, and he loved it for that reason. It didn't hurt that this guy had the kind of personality that could sell ice to eskimos. He understood that sometimes, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and Army logistics need a lot of grease. When it comes time for inspection, see how many people who wouldn't normally talk to you are begging for a hookup. My buddy understood that kit did no good sitting in the shelves, and was more than happy to get rid of it by handing it out, More importantly he understood the subtlety of drug-dealing for a case of fruit or whatever, and how such a thing has a tremendous impact on morale.

Anyway, do right by the men, and they in turn will jump through hoops of flaming ass to help you out. Conversely, be a dick and see how far it gets ya'. Either way, enjoy it. Also, you'll love some of the toys that Uncle Sugar gets for the men..

Doc out.
