Bob Swainson, the owner of Pegasus Air Sports Center, believes Mackenzie may be responsible for the accident.

“Once all the training is over, and we’re happy with everything then, then we can go and make the dive, but she didn’t do what she was supposed to do,’’ Swainson told TODAY.
Would be interested to see this elaborated on. Do civilians jump with reserves? I didn't even know people static line jumped for fun...

During my AIT (at Ft. Huachuca, AZ), a few members of my platoon decided to go static-lining one weekend. While I didn't go myself, it was a a bit of a memorable weekend: 1. First Sergeant's safety brief that Friday, while theorectically referring to contraceptives, included, "now, you wouldn't jump out of a plane without a chute, would ya?" 2. One of the jumpers managed to get his foot tangled up in the risers (don't ask me how, but I'm still guessing you Rangers have a better idea than this here Leg), and just barely managed to get free in time for a safe landing.

Yes, they did have reserve chutes. The article about the girl was pretty vague, but I wouldn't be surprised if the young lady just didn't have her senses collected enough to use it - "If that one should fail me, too | Look out, ground! 'Cause I'm comin' through!"

Obviously, God has plans for that young lady! I was not her time to go.

Today she was up and about and gave a television interview. She now plans to be a Trauma Surgeon and is not jumping out of any more planes.

I always said if I ever had a malfunction on a jump and survived it, I would jump once more afterwards to prove to myself that I could, then I would terminate jump status on the dropzone the moment I touched down.

Thankfully,I never had to follow that plan through.
