Yes, Ranger Jim, I have memorized The Ranger Creed. To me, it's like guidelines on how you should carry yourself, both in your profession and in your personal life. For example, for me, obviously I'm not a Ranger, nor am I even in the Military (yet, I start the enlistment process next month, a few days after I turn 17), so for me, I use the part "Surrender is not a Ranger word", of course in the military sense that means never surrender on the battlefield, but also to never give up in any aspect, and I take that on board with me, that tells me to NEVER give up in anything I do, and to do everything I do with 100% effort and to keep going until the job is done. The Ranger Creed helps keep the goal in mind, and is a reminder of what I'm working for, and how I should carry myself in life.

Young man, it is time for another self-administered PT test. A month has passed. Attention to detail. Never, never quit!

Month 4 PT Score
Push-ups: 71 in 2 min.
Sit-ups: 79 in 2 min.
Pull-ups: 15
2-mile: 12:37
Slight improvements, but I still have a lot of work to do. As far as strength and my weight goes, I've hit a plateau, and it's hard to break. Also, I turned 17 last week and started enlistment paperwork. So far I've just done the simple stuff like provide my Social Security number, Birth certificate, Yes/No medical and legal questions, sent my fingerprints to the FBI for background checks, and a practice ASVAB (scored a 67, I know that's not too good, but I'll study harder before I take the real one and looking back at my scrap paper, I made a few dumbass mistakes that we're easily avoidable). I'll have my parents sign an age waiver and next week when I see my recruiter I'll give it to him so we can take the next step in the process.

One step at a time. Do you have a PT buddy? Do you have anyone or anything to motivate you? Never, never quit!

Well, when I do my monthly PT test, I'm on my own, but on a "normal" workout day, I'm with my teammates (I'm on the wrestling team). And Ranger Jim, when you ask if anything motivates me, do you mean motivates me to workout or motivates me to join the Army to be a Ranger?

What motivates me to workout is of course my goals to be a Ranger, and the fact that when I do a good workout, I feel good, and that on the wrestling team, everyone, although we're all "friends", we're constantly competeing and trying to be better than eachother. What motivates me to be a Ranger is like I've stated in one of my first posts, I want to serve my country in one of its most prestigous units, I want to be with some of the best the Army has to offer. Being in the Ranger Regiment is my main (and right now, only) goal in life, and there's no other career I'd rather do. I love my family and country, and the mission of the Rangers is the one that I want to do, I want to be one of best and first to fight, not because I think it's "cool", because I want to do it. All of this and the Ranger Creed helps me with my motivation and keep the goal in sight. Sorry if this was too long or sounds "cheesy" Ranger Jim, that wasn't my intention.

No cheese. you are looking good. Read the other new guys and look at how difficult it is to get an Option 40 these days. Never, never quit!

Ranger Jim, last time when I asked my recruiter about Option 40's, he said they get about 10-15 each fiscal year, and I know they're hard to get . Since I still have to complete my senior year of high school, I'm thinking my best bet right now would be to hold my ground and wait until they get one if they're not available when I go to negotiate my contract?

Hello Ranger Jim, just a quick SITREP for you, I go to MEPS next week. So like I've said before, once it comes time to negotiate my contract I'll ask for 11x Option 40 and if they don't have one, then thank them for their time and ask them to contact me once they get more.

Excellent response. To you, this is your future. To a recruiter, you are only a quota.
