Introduction - RyanX94

Post by RyanX94 »

Howdy! My name's Ryan and I guess this is my introduction.

I'm 18 years old, and just graduated high school. I enlisted in may (just before my 18th birthday, actually) with an 11x slot. My goal is Ranger and I would have taken an Opt. 40 slot if they were still offering them.

Here's a little bit about me: I grew up surrounded by everything Ranger. My father was in 1st Bat. in 86-87, and my uncle was in 1st Bat from somewhere in the mid-early 90's (I want to say 93) until 2000. When I was younger my father was very passionate about the Army and the Rangers, but has since moved onto other passions ( I know, crazy of him. ) He is now a First Sergeant in the National Guard here. But even after leaving active duty and joining the guard, he always surrounded himself (and my family) with other Ranger veterans.

So, it was fairly easy for me to make the decision to reach Ranger, and hopefully 1st Bat. I'm not there yet, my ship date is 20121113, but like I tell everyone at home, 'They'll have to break my legs to get me to quit.'

Either way, I signed up here because I am getting ready to reach the phase before ship-date where I will dedicate all of my time to PT and other important training.

OH, and before you ask, I am already trying to convince my father to sign up here and submit his packet of authentication. I for one would be interested in seeing if anyone he knows is a member here.

Thanks for your time!

Thanks for the warm welcome, Rangers!

Also, I will be sure to post my scores when I take my next PT. I don't remember my last scores.

Hello once again, Rangers!

I took another PT test yesterday, and these were my scores:

Pushups: 85
Situps: 65
2-Mile: 13:53

I am fairly proud of myself. My last PT was just a little over two weeks before this one and I have had incredible improvement in since then (I believe it was a 75 pushups, 47 situps, and my two mile was called short because of dehydration and heat. The recruiter told me it was fine, because I had passed the PT test they give you at the start of basic, despite me telling him that it wasn't nearly good enough for me). I have two months until I ship, so that leaves me plenty of time to improve even more.

Thought I should mention: Those are reps, not scores. The scores were 100, 77, 86 I believe. They came out to 267 total.

Time grows short. Do more pushups and situps. Never, never quit!

Oh, how I have heard, Ranger Jim.

I have engraved into my frontal lobe those words, and find myself reciting them during the last few painful laps of my run.

My ultimate goal before I leave for basic is 100 Pushups / Situps and a 2 mile time of 12:30. I then plan on using all of my free time in OSUT to maintain these, if not improve them. I hear that the PT in OSUT isn't designed for high-speed, so I plan on going above and beyond.

If I do happen to reach my goal before basic, then I will surely keep improving, however. I don't want to slow down because I have reached my goal.
