I pulled a car over and....

Post by IEDmagnet »

A lot of you know I'm a patrolman in a not so quiet corner of South Carolina. The Holiday season is in full swing, and as a result our population decreases quite a bit. I was doing my normal Highway Safety Unit stuff, stopping cars, when I pulled a dark Blue Sportage over for failing to display validation stickers on the license plate.

Now I had made my mind up that unless they were dicks there was going to be no ticket, as the tag was a Purple Heart one, issued only to verified recipients of the award. I conducted my approach to the vehicle and immediately saw Ranger tab floor mats in the vehicle, along with a 75th Ranger Regt. crest.

I was honored to have just stopped Ranger E. Piazza, a 93 year old veteran of WWII and surviving member of Merrill's Marauders. He and his wife are quietly living their remaining days in the upstate of SC, and bent my ear for many minutes after discovering I was a paratrooper and vet of the current conflicts. Just another example of a living breathing Hero and his spouse. Might be short, but I had to share. Great experience....

Of course I have no way of Vetting someone like this, but at 93 I'm going to take his word for it and enjoy the fact that I met another wonderful American.

Check on her every week. She's still kicking and and screaming. Especially on the cold days....

If it is the dude I'm thinking of, he is a short dude who served in the Marauders in WWII. I think he got out at the end of the war and went into business. He was at the last get together in Benning this year and as I recall, they are disbanding their organization so the 75th RRA invited them to become members of our organization. Yeah, he's the real deal.

Same here, Steadfast . . .I have had the honor of meeting Ranger Piazza several times at
reunions. I still have his card in my wallet. I try to meet as many of our Ranger forefathers as
I can, while they are with still with us. I'm blown away everytime!
