Please move this if it is in the wrong forum, I could not decide where it would be appropriate.

Let me give some more background as to why I am leaving the civilian workforce:

- I work two jobs, they are delivering pizza and working at a womans clothing store.

- I have no formal education, nor do I have my GI Bill. You can think the Corps for screwing me out of that one.

- My only true friends are in the military. While I'm sure there are some nice people in the world, I dont think there are too many of them who would stand by you while you two try to fight off 8 somoians.

- My other job prospect is working for a minor race team on the pit crew.

This sucks, I used to be cool I thought. Or did cool things. I would rather push papers and be in uniform than answering the phone saying, "thanks for calling dominos". My dad warned me about this, he said, "Son you are gonna hate it while you are in for a little while, maybe your whole enlistment. But if you stick with it, it'll get better. You will want nothing but to get out. But theres hardly anything to do once you get out."

How right he was, damn chief warrant officers. I swear they know almost anything. So if you have made it this far in my ramblings I would have to say:

- civilian life sucks for me.

- thanks everyone who has replied to my messages.

- to all the DEP's my best advice to you is be motivated, people will see that, it might help one or two that are struggling, dont piss off when you can make yourself better. they say hindsight is 20/20, and if i did what i could have done back then I would have left the Corps as a Sergeant, not a LCpl. Don't think they will get you in shape in boot camp. When I left boot camp I was worse off physically wise than I was when I got there.

Soooo, why you on a Ranger board? Prior service can't go Ranger.

I admire and respect your decision to get back in the military, but where ya going and what's the plan?

Correct me if I am wrong, but the way I have understood it was to get infantry in your contract, volunteer for airborne, from airborne volunteer for RIP.

I have also discussed another option with Leatherneck about going into SF reserves.

What part of "prior service" didn't you understand. That's exactly why LN is doing the SF route. No Ranger contract available.

From what I've seen so far......No prior service can join the Army and go to RIP.

What part of PRIOR SERVICE are you guys not getting. You think you can sneak around through the back door? Guess what? The Army is smarter than you. There is no back door. No prior service can enlist and go to RIP. No PRIOR SERVICE can go to RIP or ROP or have a chance of getting into a Ranger Battalion.

If, IF you happen to know the right people......it's possible.

You can enlist for airborne or SF or just about anything you want but you will not go to a Ranger Battalion.

What you can do is enlist with an Airborne contract and after a year (someone correct me if I'm wrong on the year thing) you can try transfering to Ranger. You can also enlist and go to Korea for 2 years. You then have your choice of duty station. You can reup for assignment to a Ranger Battalion.

Option 40 is only for new recruits. Period.

It's not what you know but who you know.
