Regular to Ranger

Post by DoughBoy11C »

I have grazed through the forum and cant seem to find the question I'm looking for, but I doubt I am the first one to ask. I'm currently active duty 11C NCO 3yrs time in service. I want to go to battalion, I have made up my mind. Not that any answers to this question are going to change what I have decided. Ive already talked to the ranger recruiter, and am currently trying to unscrew the retention NCO on my FOB lol. He says I can't, ranger recruiter says I can. Anyways, I've heard from friends, back home prior service at a Ranger Battalion, and peers in my unit, that if I go to Ranger Battalion I would be laughed out and never taken seriously. I would naturally expect a certain level of B.S. and having to prove myself. I consider myself great at my job and I easily learn. Exactly how much ridicule would I have to put up with when I get to battalion? How long can I expect it to last?

Only as long as it takes to prove yourself just like any other infantry outfit.
"Imports" do have to deal with a degree of skepticism, but if you're man enough, just do it.
You 4187 or re-up for Regiment. You will have to pass RASP/ROPE and if an NCO, earn your tab along the way as well.
That's all.

Thanks for the input! Pretty much what I expected but I was hearing alot of people trying to bring me down lol. Not to worried about RASP or airborne Afghanistan has given me plenty a chance to get ready for that. Ranger School should be interesting though! Nothin makes you feel more accomplished than making it through a good suck fest! At least in my opinion. Except maybe the first beer I get when I go on R&R in a few weeks!!!! Also thanks Viper.

I completed two extended tours in Viet-Nam before attending OCS. Then I went to Ranger School. Got hurt and had to go through the mountains twice. Following graduation, the Mountain Camp Commander, LTC "Moose" Yon asked, which is worse, Viet-Nam or Ranger School? I told him that if you get hurt in Viet-Nam, you might die -- but if you get hurt in Ranger School, they make you do it over.
