introduction-parent of Ranger

Post by hooahdad »

Hello Heroes, loved ones and young men wanting to be,
My name is John from Maryland. My son is a Ranger in the 2/75. He was just home for "block leave" and he spent some quality time with all his family and "people". I put him on an airplane yesterday to return to service. And, believe it or not--I am OK--OK with where he is going.... with his decision and direction in life and service to OUR country. He has articulated to me--as a parent--that he is greatly trained, smartly discilplined and has the same watching his back. He said.."Trust me Dad..I have the best in front of me and I have the best behind me.."(At graduation at Ft. Benning--he asked me to pin his Scroll on...I have never been so proud of him or our country. I wept with pride). Over this past leave I was greatly impressed with my son's sense of character, pride, esteem and his "stature" as a man. We truly spent Man to Man time--as opposed to Man to "old teenager". (Parents will understand this).
I joined here to-perhaps-fellowship with other parents, spouses (and Rangers and young men wanting to be) as to what is going on...what is not going..support. (I hope I am in the right spot).
God Bless all who serve and peace at heart to those of us at home.
Regards, John

Well, welcome, John from Maryland. Mine's in 2nd too. I put mine on a plane last week too, and even though I'm a tough ol' gal, I hugged him and left when I started to feel "that feeling"; always happens, always will. Glad to have more old folks, especially those from 2nd.

We're honored to have you here, John. Thanks for raising a Ranger. I was fortunate enough to meet many of the current 2nd Bat studs this past August, and I would have to agree that your son is is excellent hands.

Welcome and God Bless you and your family. I spent a lot of time in Maryland. Graduated from UMD too, only took me 7 years! (I got a masters too).

Let me know when you're ready to move down here to NC. Maryland used to be this nice :)

Welcome 'Dad. You don't need to worry about your son at all,
I spent my "formative years" in 2d Batt and look how I turned out.

You'll find a few other parents here who've sweated out their son's first deployment also, but be assured, he's equipped for the task. If he isn't, they won't suffer his presence for long. If he's still in battalion a few months from now, he'll be a lifelong part of one of the finest of the proverbial 'bands of brothers' there ever was, and it's for a lifetime. You raised him right.
