Rangers,
I have spoken with people on site where I work currently and have yet to find the answer to this question as well as searching these forums. If I hold a top secret/single scope poly clearance do I have to go through the entire clearance process again or will my clearance just be "downgraded" to secret?
I have had my clearance placed into the DoD database but my recruiter told me I still have to repeat the clearance process, but shortly after I spoke with a gentlemen who is currently serving with the USAF and he said I do not. It seems this is a question that has me running in circles with secruity and recruiters.

Who cares? Just stay focused on the task at hand. If you have to fill out another piece of paper, do you think it really matters?
Seriously, if you already have a clearence, what are you worried about?

OK, Security Clearances is one of my jobs...From what I can read from your information, you already have an SSBI. Correct?MichaelWhitby wrote:Rangers,

What is the position you hold the clearance for? (GS, Contractor, etc...) The reason I ask is because there are multiple personnel categories assigned to various agencies, what could be happening is that your personnel category doesn't match within the Army personnel categories.
Regardless, complete the SF 86 (EQIP or EPSQ) and call it a day. It's a hassle but it's the key to something you want to do.

The investigation will basicaly just be an update , but if you're in a position requiring only a 'secret', then that's what you'll have. "Need to know" and all that.
Where I work we get lots of newly retired officers with all sorts of TS's whose new jobs require no clearance or a secret at most. Fill out the forms, the in-depth scrutiny you've already suffered will just speed up the process, provided there's nothing questionable that's occured since you got the TS.

Another piece of paper does not matter and you are correct, I need to learn to only focus on tasks that are imperative to my training and preparation for the Army as at this point that is all that matters.

Yes I do have an SSBI, my clearance is for contract work with Lockheed Martin. If I am not mistaken a SSBI must be completed prior to receiving the Top Secret/Single Scop Polygraph.

There you have it. You are currently carried (and you clearance was processed) using the wrong personnel categorization for any active duty clearance.

You're correct however, that isn't a downgrade. The assumption by big Army is that your TS is no longer needed (since a review wasn't initiated) and utilizes the results of your SSBI to validate a Secret which is required for most MOS's at Pay grade E8 and above. But you are correct Soldiers often refer to that action as a downgrade.
