Re: SUSPENSION TRAINING

I've seen it and read some reviews, have not used it. Seems like it provides a wide range of opportunity for body-weight exercises, and I imagine you could do some heavy straight leg and vertical knee raises with ankle weights, and some variations of dips and chin-ups/pull-ups with a dip belt and weights. The most important thing about the equipment you use and the exercises you do, is to enjoy doing it. If you're doing things you don't like, you tend to stop doing it pretty quick. BTW, I pick up most of my exercise gear from neighbors and friends who buy stuff, use it for a few weeks and then let it take up space for six months before giving it to me. I'm sure I'll get a 360 before the year is up.

I figure along with tire flipping, keg lifting, sledge hammer, and suspension training (along with swimming and rucking and running) the kind of strength and endurance I would need would be better met with the type of workout Im getting with the core 360 trainer. Besides that I was able to buy an XBOC 360 and a set of bodylastic's (dont laugh, there insanily useful and hard) and give my wife $200 for bedding (she had to be bribed to allow me the XBOX). I love the suspension training so far. Doing dips on the thing is WAY different than on a standard dip bar. Same with pull ups.

Don't really know what suspension training is, but I have a set of gymnast rings in the basement. I also do the tire flipping, sledge hammering, chains, 50 foot rope waves, KB and swimming and rucking.

I take it back. Blackwater gave me one of those in 05. Pretty cool concept. I also got a total gym off of craig's list.

I'm going to build some pullup/dip bars with 4x4's and poles too.

I would love to get my hands on some gymnastic rings; I think they might be my favorite single piece of exercise equipment and, IMHO, one of the most versatile. Bodyweight stuff is what I like to do most, though I suppose supplemented with lifting as well, but I have the most fun in my workouts when freestyling on a bar.

This is a great site for bodyweight strength training and conditioning:

Rangers,

I've been frequenting a website lately.

http://gymnasticbodies.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't use rings but like doing ground skills and bars. I heard the book is a good read and also has some awesome ring routines.

Respectfully,
Sean

"The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) is designed to test the muscular strength/endurance and cardiovascular respiratory fitness of soldiers in the US Army. Soldiers are given a score based of performance consisting of three events, the sit-up (SU), push-up (PU) and a two mile run, normally ranging from 0-300. A passing score is 180 or higher with a minimum score of 60 in each event. Army Field Manual FM 21-20 covers the administering of the APFT, as well as ways to conduct personal, squad and unit lever physical training (PT) sessions.

A soldier is required to take a "record" (meaning for official records) APFT every 6 months. If, due to a diagnosed medical condition, a soldier is temporarily unable to conduct one or more of the events in the record APFT, the soldier can granted a extension to allow them to overcome their injury and return to a acceptable level of physical fitness. If a soldier has a permanent medical condition that keeps them from conducting the 2 mile run, an alternate event (2.5 mile walk, 800 yd swim, or 6.2 mile bike) is taken. There are no alternate events for the PU or SU.

The gym I go to has a TRX circuit program. I try to go as often as I can. Amazing for core and provides much better muscle stabilization than doing push ups on a solid surface. If you have trouble with push ups / pull ups do some training with this and it will help immensely. If you don't have trouble with them, you can still do some great routines and as I mentioned previously muscle stabilization. Something that I personally lacked up until recently. I would recommend TRX over doing push ups on a wobble board.
