Pope was reluctant Hitler Youth

Pope Benedict XVI was forced to join the Hitler Youth as a teenage seminary student, but was ideologically opposed to the movement, said Tuesday Rev. Federico Lombardi, spokesman for the Holy See.

"There was a time when the pope was a young seminary student that he was obligated to join the Hitler Jugend," Lombardi told The Jerusalem Post.

"He was forced to miss seminary studies occasionally but he opposed Nazi ideology and got out as soon as he could."

Lombardi's comments contradicted news stories that appeared during the day Tuesday to the effect that the pope was never in the paramilitary organization tied to the Nazi Party.

I think that I would think twice, maybe even three times, before posting an essay found on Dawkin's site (a rather rabidly anti-Christian atheist) in which the main source material cited by the journalists came from a group of liberal dissenters who have continued to make their home in the Roman Church, as having any sort of objectivity or attempts at fairness being made in its writing.

I think it must be understood that the current pontiff is not interested in sheltering pedophiles and homos as much as he is interested in protecting his bishops from the possibly unjust and without due process evisceration that would be desired by the secular media. I am an evangelical Protestant, and could not minister within the Roman communion due to pointed theological differences on certain important issues, but I do have a certain amount of sympathy for a man seeking to keep his end of the church from the bile that the world would love to throw upon it. It's not like church discipline in the Roman Catholic Church is non-existent, but neither is it to be dictated to them by the agenda of the world.

I would think the Pope would be more supportive of Israel's right to exist and live free of suicide bombers and rocket attacks then Hamas's right to continue terror.
