I understand what's taking place in the financial realm right now, but I don't fully understand how any one person could be responsible for it. I understand that as the POTUS Pres. Bush was responsible for everything the patrol did or failed to do, I just don't think in the nuanced explanation of our current mess that it is fair to lay it on his head so matter of factly.

Who inherited it from Jimmy Carter.

This mess has been brewing for a VERY long time. It began when it was decided in the '70s that banking & lending should be loosened to allow anyone who can fill out an application get a mortgage. This combined with relaxed SEC regulations that allowed otherwise un-talented con-men to work the system have left a mess that will not go away with a wave of the congressional magic wand.

If blame needs to be placed, it belongs in two places. the shoulders of every congressman that has served since the '70s, and the shoulders of every adult American who since then has not showed the fiscal responsibility to only purchase what they can truly afford.

The problem started in 1913 when they created the Federal Reserve, we used to print and spend money which drove the economy, but now every dollar the Govt borrows from itself it creates another dollar of debt that we ultimately had to take care of with the creation of the federal income tax.

So the Govt borrows from itself amounts of money that vastly out weighs the annual income tax revenue. So here we are!
