Possibly more French troops for Afghanistan

Post by Chiron »

Paris - French President Nicolas Sarkozy says that under certain conditions he would be willing to send more troops to Afghanistan. The president, who is on a state visit to the United Kingdom, will submit his proposal at next week's NATO summit in Romania. He said that France has developed a strategy which should enable the Afghan people and its government to build peace.

If NATO agrees with the French proposal, Paris will substantially expand its forces in Afghanistan. Mr Sarkozy emphasised that Afghanistan must never be allowed to fall in the hands of the Taliban and al-Qaeda. He did not mention a specific number of soldiers, but sources in Paris spoke of at least 1,000 troops.

I don't know actually how good the French are. I would hope though that they woudl send their best and not a token force.

France has a particularly difficult position, considering its Moslem demographics.

There's already Frenchie troops in the Stan. Their use is severly restricted & as always, they aren't allowed to pkay with others.
More of the same? They might as well not bother & just get the hell out of the way for real soldiers who are allowed to and trained to fight.

I couldn't agree with you more on that one. There are only 3 nations doing the heavey lifting there. Us, the Brits and the Canadians.

Aren't the Cloggies aka the Dutch in play there, or have they split again?
