Iraqi Security Forces in Adhamiyah Continue to dismantle Al Qaeda network

By: ? 2nd BCT PAO, 82nd Airborne Div.

BAGHDAD- Iraqi Army forces and local Iraqi Security Volunteers captured two suspected members of AL Qaeda in Iraq in separate incidents Dec. 21 in Baghdad’s Adhamiyah District.

In the first event, Iraqi soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 1st Brigade, 11th Iraqi Army Division conducted a raid in the Tunis neighborhood Friday evening that captured a high ranking target alleged to be involved in murder and attacks on coalition forces.

The target was known as a leader of the AQI group operating in the Adhamiyah and Suleikh areas, said Capt. George Riggin, an operations officer with the 11th Irai Army’s U.S. military advisory team.

The successful operation was further proof of the Iraqi army’s ability to gather and exploit intelligence independent of U.S. forces, Riggin said. “(The 11th Iraqi Army) has a very well developed source network, and they’re very adept at executing time-sensitive operations.â€
