'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag.. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.'

Re: Immigrants
As wise and respected a man as Rosevelt was, I beg to differ, and add my .02! There are men who have come to this country, that have held true thier allegiance to our great nation, our flag, and our way of life. Those who have proven themselves as true Americans in every aspect, that have fought in many a war side by side his brother American, upholding the rights of those Americans that choose not to do so for themselves, but find it nessasary to belittle, and throw ill comment to those who do. There are those immigrants who have earned the right to be called an American as well as the right to hold onto thier lineage, thier roots, and the pride of where they come from.F50LRRP wrote:'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. The short explanation, Ranger Vee, is that it's a small sharp knife, usually carried concealed. A woman's sgian dubh would be kept sheathed in a pocket, while a man's could be carried under his arm pit or in his sock. In earllier eras, Scots used them as eating utensils and for self defense.
The long explanation, including more history and applications than could be easily imagined, is found Here
Ranger Puck, good call on the weapon. Hopefully it's not some painful experience that has taught you that it's important to know in what way a woman may be armed...
