Glock hands down.

I wouldn't get a 17 I would get the 19C.

If you are going to go that route just by a standard Springfield 1911A1 G.I model and replace a few parts.

Kimber's are great but in reality you are just buying a name.

I own both.

Buy a Glock 19. Your just starting out. 9mm ammo is less expensive than .45. The 19 will serve all your needs.

The Glock 17 is a little longer (about 1 1/2 inches) for eaiser accuracy, that's about the only differance between that and the 19, and you can probably get two for $800 if you shop around, just make sure that you get the high capacity mags with it.

I like Kimbers because I believe out of the box, they can outshoot just about anything. The downside, .45 ammo costs a lot more than 9mm.

I agree with this but on a more practical note you need to go to a local range and rent both of these guns first. See which one feels better to you and you shoot more naturally. I also agree with the 1911 assessment. If you can swing a 1911 it is the camero of guns and easily upgradeable.

I imagine the biggest issue you will have will be with trigger pull. Glocks out of the box usually have a pretty stiff trigger pull plus some people have issues with the trigger safety. For less than $100 you can get a 3 1/2 to 4lb modification. The USP is a great gun as well but I would look at the 9mm for a beginner.

Also look at the Browning Hi-power. The Hi-power will give you all of the ergonomic benifits and shootability of the 1911 with the economical 9mm caliber and higher mag capacity of the Glock. It's 1935 design is updated from the 1911 and nearly every 9mm auto today is based on its slide and barrell design. Find a used one that was still made in Belgium.

For a low cost alternative it is difficult to beat the CZ-75, also called the Eastern bloc Hi-power, in function, fit and form. It comes in 9mm and shoots like a dream just without the name brand.

Hope this helps,

I am by far, not a "gun nut"... but I have about 9 handguns, and five of those are Glocks. My personal favorite carry piece, is my Glock 36. My second favorite is my Sig P-220. I really don't care for the H&K USP. Not because it isn't a good weapon, in fact, it is a fantastic weapon. I just don't care how it fits my hands, and I really don't like the mag release. But, that is all just personal opinion.

I have 9mm, .40 SW, .45 ACP, and .357 Sig.

The one I love to shoot the most, is the .45 ACP.

Also, for a personal note zingzong2005...

I realize you are from a different country, but... this is a RANGER site. There are RANGER rules. None of us mind talking to you about shooting, and weapons and such...

But, when you address a Ranger... do so properly. Everyone that has Ranger under their username... has earned that right.

Go back, and read the FAQ's and Stickies before you post again. There are those on this board, that will not be as nice as I am about this.

Cheers,

What about the Heckler and Koch USP ,9mm compared to the Glock 17???
Or are they totally differnet and you can´t compare them.

But I have heared that the USP is a big gun so probably .45 would be more accurate

To be honest with you I hate HK pistols. So my opinion is bais.

Shoot both and see which one you like more.

I am not saying they are shit by any means.

My point is that 95% of people that own buy Kimbers cannot shoot that gun to it's full capabilities. They could do just as well with a Springfield.

If someone gave one to me I wouldn't turn it down.

True, true. Most people buy a name. Most fags just don't know how to handle their iron.
