But, a 1000' spool for 45 bucks seems like a good deal to me.

I 'found' a 1000' spool next to some dumb-ass's wide-open connex just before I got out; it's still got a few hundred feet left on it. I need to get another spool in about 3 years.

Every Army/Navy store in my AO has both real 550 and the crap with the fuzzy core instead of the strings. I got a 100 yard bundle a few months back for a couple bucks, and did the same thing with all my mags. The 100 mph tape was more expensive than the 550 cord.
