Disability rating question for you VA guys

Post by Looon »

As part of my Chapter 31 gig, I went to the VA hospital at Loma Linda today, for a C&P appt.

I was given a print out of my disabiliy break down, with percentages. It makes no sence what so ever.

SC%: 60 (this is the rate I am paid)

Tendon inflamation (20%-SC)
Lumbosacral or Cervical Strain (20%-SC)
Traumatic Arthritis (20%-SC)
Tinnitus (10%-SC)
Traumatic Arthritis (10%-SC)
Impaired Hearing (0%-SC)

Based on the above %'s Im 80% SC disabled. Why am I only compensated at 60% SC? :?

Any help or insite would be appreciated.

Well, the way it works is that You get the actual percentage of your primary rated disabilities, all the following percentages are cut in half.... I.E... 20%+20% = 40%.... then half the rest, which is 10, 5 and 5.. all equal to 60%... hook up with your doctor and have them explain it to you.. FYI.. drink alot of water prior, piss your pants EVERY time you go there, incontinence from nerve damage is 20%..........

This is commonly referred to as "VA math". I have seen combined ratings over 150% (ie 20+30+60+40)

The service connected rating is considered a whole body percentage much like a Maximum Medical Improvement rating on workmans compensation cases.

I have heard, and this is unconfirmed, that to get a 70% combined rating you need atleast one issue rated at 30%. To get 80% atleast one issue at 40% so on and so forth. The cavaet to this rule are those serious conditions that can stand alone at 60, 70 or even 100%.

Another small item is that should you own a business you will never get 100% 80% will be the max until the business is out of your name.

I also have Tinitis and hearing impairment, they dont pay
for that percentage because so many service members do end
up with both, and the Arthritis they dont pay for.
Only the other service conected injuries.
I have severe arthritis on top of my other problems, and
i have to even buy my own motrin for that. sucks
back in the 90's they paid for EVERYTHING, but thanks
to cutbacks in the late 90's (wonder who was president?)
they stoped. They even USED TO pay for ER trips not anymore.

Yea i have 120% combined but only 100% is most they pay.

100% is only when you are 100% uncapable of getting better
or getting a job ever again. You could be missing two legs
and one arm and still get 80% if you were in good health.

I have a combined rating of 160%, but they only pay me at 80% and this is after the Army gave me a medical seperation after 18 years of service for jump related injuries (broken neck, jaw, shoulder, hip ect...) The VA also withholds a third of my disability to recoup the severance that the Army gave me. You gotta love it.
