T w o...a m m o...p o u c h e s with five mags each and the one in the rifle is e l e v e n mags REAL handy. We never fired on rock 'n roll (auto) because the Team Leader figured that if you couldn't get it done with three rounds, the other sixteen weren't going to help. Firing full auto just burned up too much ammo. Besides, when the adrenalin is flowing, you fire almost as fast on semi. We practiced firing three rounds so much, that it became habit. The most I ever used in combat was three mags, but it was nice to know the rest were there on the LBE and in my ruck, if need be. Kind of a pain in the ass because we emptied every mag, and cleaned and oiled the ammo and magazines, after every mission. It was kind of a ritual. Our area in the forward fire support base would have groups of eight or nine guys here and there, cleaning wheapons and ammo, and shooting the shit. Sorta helped you unwind.[
I never wore a cape, but I still have my dog tags.
