Armed Forces MMA Tournament on March 19th

Please pass the word around to all who may be interested.

The Armed Forces Pankration Invatational is being held on March 19th at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

All Military Servicemen are invited to compete. There will be divisions for beginners, Intermediate and Advanced with 7 weight classes each. Individual awards will be presented to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners. Team awards will be presented to top Intermediate and advanced division teams.

Pankration rules allow body strikes, takedowns and submissions.

Pankration was one of the world's first mixed martial arts blood sports.

In ancient Greece, two dudes would get naked and try to kill each other. First person to quit, pass out or die lost. Attempting to leave the ring would result in a referee beating you in the skull with a club. Anything was legal except eye-gouging and biting. Aside from that, you could break someone's arm and then use it to choke him out for all they cared.

I don't know why they had to get naked. Maybe because it prevents grabbing onto clothes. Maybe it was to ensure no one hid any weapons or used their clothing as a weapon. Maybe the ancient Greeks were just a bunch of fucking weirdos that like seeing two naked dudes wrestling around.

I don't know.

Modern Pankration is basically submission wrestling with bitch slaps allowed. No closed handed blows. Just backhands and pimp slaps.

They tried getting Pankration into the 2004 Olympics, but the OIC is a bunch of fucking girls and they added fairy dancing or something instead.
