I was torn between a Springfield 1911 Milspec .45, a Springfield XD 40, and this Glock. I really wanted all three.

I love the 1911, it's slender shape, and the nostalgia of it....but it's heavy and it only holds 7 rds. Plus, the sights on the milspec model suck.

I liked the XD 40, but the barrel length was a bit short and I prefer a .45 caliber.

So, since it's mostly a toy, I ended up with the Glock. I used a model 21 as an issue weapon during one of my LE jobs and although it's bulky and ugly, it seemed to be a very good utility weapon. The one I had before never jammed and was surprisingly accurate.

The only thing I'm not pleased with so far with this new one is the slide release. It's next to impossible to activate it...even with two hands. If it doesn't loosen up considerably, I plan on returning it. Anyone else have this problem?

Ranger EP, when I purchased my Glock 30 I had the same problem. Once I sent some rounds downrange, it loosened up. I'm still probably going to purchase an extended slide release one day.

Thanks...good to know. I don't recall my issue Glock ever being so stubborn, but perhaps it was.
Ranger Fireranger, thanks for the link. I'll check them out.

You can't go wrong with the Glock. I own a 17 myself.

Nice color scheme :)
If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid.

Ranger EP,

You can get an OEM Glock extended slide stop (fits all 3-pin lowers except the 36) from www.lonewolfdist.com (GLO-7496 Slide Stop Ext 3 Pin) for $15.95.

I've bought tons of stuff from them. The factory sights on Glocks pretty much suck. If this is primarily a defensive weapon, periodic target shooting, I suggest the Heinie "Straight Eight" Night sights or Trijicon or Meprolights.

I would also get a 3.5# connector, and follow the polishing instructions here: http://limitedgun1.bei.t-online.de/

EP: I don't use mine anymore, it's a slide stop, not a slide release. I've been retraining myself to rack the slide (overhand, thumb towards me) after all reloads because it's the same motion I use for clearing malfunctions. One motion, easier for muscle memory and works better for me under stress.

Thats what I was gona chime in with, in training somewhere I was told the reason the slide stop was so small on a Glock was that so it could not be used for a slide release. Racking the slide back is supposed to get the most power from the recoil sping and have the least chance at malfunctions during reloads. That being said I would have opted for a Para Ordanance P-14 series. 15 rounds of .45 cant be wrong :D
