The Last Centurion

This is an excellent novel. The concept is that Hillary became president, no Obama (it was written before he became president), however Hillary is not called Hillary... but you get the connection.

Due to basic solar patterns the earth begins to cool a bit. Just enough to make crops suck in a normal year, but liveable... however at the same time the avian flu actually hits and it wipes out a good chunk of the earth.

Now, a rear guard US Army unit is stuck in Iran (yep, went there too) and is told to stay and guard the stuff until you are redeployed.

There is no redeployment. America is trying to not fall apart and is barely holding on.

So, what to do if you are the commander? Get back on your own.

This is an great book, with a heck of a lot of real facts about farming, they myth of global warming, and what happens when the shit really hits the fan in the urban centers vs the rural centers.

Highly recommend it.
