Whatever sort of "alliance" exists between Russia and China is superficial. These are two nations whose deep seated animosity towards each other goes back centuries. Racism doesn't even begin to describe it.
The analysis of Russia having an inferiority complex was right on the dot. By comparison, the Chinese have believed in their natural supremacy for millenia. (The Japanese, believing they are direct descendents of the sun god, are one of the most fanatical racist societies to inhabit the planet, hence there has always been friction between them and the Chinese, but I digress...)
The Chinese calligraphy and Mandarin word for China is Chung Kuo, or Jung Gwo (my Mandarin is the prehistoric Tewksbury method) meaning "Central Kingdom". The Chinese word for Russia is Eg Kuo or Ug Gwo, literally meaning Ugly Country, which is an indication of their viewpoint. (BTW, the Chinese word for the US is Mei Kuo or Meggwo, meaning Beautiful Country)
Another indicator of the Chinese viewpoint is the historic word "kowtow", which means what was required of foreigners doing business in China centuries ago. Westerners had to literally crawl on the floor to greet the Chinese emperor when negotiating trade relations, they had to "kowtow" to the emperor, hence today's word meaning to abase yourself to someone - I had to kowtow to the SOB before he would hear me out.
The frontier between Russia and China has been fortified for decades and has seen serious clashes that have been largely unreported in the press. The last one I know of occurred in the early 1970s.
It would not take much to spark a major conflict between threse two nation states. China has always been about commercial trade; Russia has always been about dick size.

I don't think it'll be much longer before the Communist Party of China realizes that capitalism and communism cannot co-exist. Since capitalism is determining the future of their country they will sell out their political ideals in short order before too long.TC204 wrote:The Chinese booed the Iranian delegation at the opening ceremony and booed their athletes as well. I recently had the opportunity to talk to a business man who trades and deals directly with sources in China. He told me that the party hard liners are basically ignorant to the whole capitalism thing and kind of dismissing its existence. Its the young turks who are making shit happen, and the old school is kinda saying, "Fuck it. Our economy is doing better now than it has in centuries.." turning a blind eye.
I don't believe for a second that the Chinese/Russian relationship is a good one. They have bad blood that goes back a very long time and it wouldn't take much for them to go at it again.
I subscribe to the McDonald's theory of Geo-politics; No two countries that have McD's have ever gone to war with each other.

And this is our empire. Not one of military dominance, nor colonization. We are an empire of capitalistic ideology. The rest of the world wants to eat Big Macs, wear Levis, watch Angelina Jolie, listen to Hannah Montana. Those who don't hate us with a passion, mainly because their kid's want to get all this stuff. The Sleepy Doc wrote:I recently had the opportunity to talk to a business man who trades and deals directly with sources in China. If all the borders were opened in the world, and everyone would be allowed to go anywhere they want to, the Earth would soon tilt on its axis due to all the folks standing in the US.

I was going to say Brittany Spears, but I figure all the Muslims have worn out their left hands on that one, and are moving on to the next underage (future) trainwreck.RangerX wrote:I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.
