Any of you guys ever heard of 148 Commando Bty? I was working with them quite a bit towards the end of my time with 21, as i was specialising in recce and S&R ops (CSAR to you, i think). 148 Bty are equivalent to ANGLICO in the USMC i believe.

So, how do the Rangers rate the Royal Marines, then?

Just worked with Pathfinders and I think it was 1st Para that sponsored our team for the Cambrian Patrol. I heard the USMC did away with ANGLICO, don’t know if they replaced them with something else, but used to work with them a lot, thought they were squared away, I only have one friend that worked with RM and he had no complaints.

ANGLICO

Ranger Horned Toad, i had no idea Rangers cross-trained so much with other units. I was in a Territorial SF unit, and we crossed trained a lot, with the US SF, and the more "sneaky-beaky" units. Are Rangers considered special forces? I know you use the term in a slightly different way to us. In the UK, our SF units are the SAS, SBS and a couple of smaller units like the RM Mountain Leaders (Brigade Patrols Troop) and the Pathfinders, who are all roled more towards the combined operations end of the spectrum, with a broad range of tasks and responsibilities. Whereas your SF are specifically tasked with a certain geographical area i believe. Correct me if im wrong.

Are Rangers considered the top of the food chain? heh heh

Welcome. I also respect the British. Spent some time in 1982 while we were training C coy 22 (I believe) SAS for a specific mission that we perfected. They broke one of my ribs. Then the the Falkands started....

Then I met up with an airborne unit they had a patch on the shoulder it looked Scotish (don't remember) but they were hard chargers in fact seemed to be quite serious.

I guess you mean C Sqn. There aren't any companies in the SAS. Cool. I've never heard of the Regiment learning from the US, but i guess there's a first time for everything...(JOKE!)

I suppose you’re correct on sqn vs. coy that was 22 years ago. I wish I could tell you more.

It's good to talk to what we young'uns in the UK refer to (with reverance, i might add) as the "old and bold". I've been looking through the anecdotes etc on the forums, and you guys have a hell of a lot of interesting history to tell.
