Camping...what a great topic
I love it. I have some of the best memories with my family growing up because of it.
First of all, being prior military, I can take roughing it, (Staying in a foxhole all night with Georgia bugs crawling all over ya')I wouldn't go this far again out of sheer enjoyment, but I do love to camp.
I can start my own fire or even go without. I put my own worms on my hooks and could even search under rocks and the side of creek beds for things that would catch a fish. I always gut my own fish and have been known to lose a few fishing bets where I have had to gut everyone else's fish too. I own my own fishing poles, one for lake fishing and an ultralight for upper mtn. streams. I don't know how to fly fish yet I must admit. I like to camp out in the winter too when I am hunting and wake up with hot coffee and a little Bailey's Irish Cream to take off the chill. (Yes, I own a pair of carhardts and longjohns(not the sexiest attire but I stay warm)There's nothing like feeling the crispness and hearing an elk bugle.
This summer I plan on taking nothing but a tarp, my sleeping bag and my fishing rod tied onto my saddle bag and I am going to ride up into those high mtn lakes and streams and just get lost. That's one of the reasons I moved to this area of Wyoming. I want to enjoy what nature has to offer before I get too old and can't and I am just stuck with memories. Oh, I will be taking those ice cold baths though in the creek naked...I can't go without being clean, I don't want to stink. I will just eat sulphur off of match sticks to keep the bugs off so that I won't have to spray down with repellant.

Cool thread. Hilarious story Ranger Camaro, I was crying from laughing so hard too. Ranger Slowpoke, had to laugh at your girl's comment!
;).
So the ladies are invited to comment? Alright, it's this simple.
I have hardly ever been camping. I'm an only child and neither parent was really into it much. My weekends and holidays have been spent competing on horseback, since I was 7. I don't have my own gear, and I don't know have the roughing-it skills of you camping-savvy folks.
I do love being outside, and not just in perfect sunny weather. The few times I have been camping, have been some of the best weekends ever. I've been trying to get a crew of my friends together to go with me. As for requiring all the amenities... nope. The things I don't know how to do, I'd like to learn. I do not get grossed out and don't scare easily (have been pretty much face-to-face with bears many times).... and if you catch me complaining [unlikely!], I'll carry your pack as well as mine.
So there you have it. I'm a rookie that's up for anything.
