Good to see you’re running. Don’t forget your caloric intake. As they say in Greece a hungry bear doesn’t dance well.

Thanks. :)

Ranger Pafsanias, I'm trying to maintain 7,000 calories a day, which is pushing the capacity of my stomach. :) I do a little less on days I work out, as I don't eat big before a workout, but try to make up for it right after. Lots of carbs, mainly pasta, rice, and other stuff that converts quickly.

I've been going to bed with my muscles aching, my head throbbing, my lungs burning, my stomach full, and feeling better than I've felt in a long time, if you follow.

I took today off, with just a small work out, and a lot of food, letting my body recover, and tomorrow it's another day of pain. ;) I'm trying to do this smart, but still throw myself 110% into all of my workouts. I've got my second DEP PT session on Wednesday, and I can see then what improvements I've made, and go from there. :)

Also thank you to all the other DEPers who have helped me with advice and encouragement, it's appreciated. I'll try to do the same when I find people that I can help. :)

Since you seem to be serious about this, Private Pile, here's a little tip to get your body used to running. Push yourself (increase your speed) when you are running into the wind or uphill. Relax (stride......longer, but slower steps) when you are running with the wind at your back or running downhill. Your body and brain will want to do the opposite. This will make your body work harder, but it will also strengthen your legs and increase your stamina. When you run, relax and slow down your breathing. Also, relax your arms and hands (keep them bent, but relaxed)....you don't need to waste energy clenching your fists. On long runs, challenge your mind by reciting the Ranger Creed (or something similar) while you're running. This will help the miles go by faster and will keep you from thinking about pain. Good luck....you've got a long way to go.

Thank you Ranger Earthpig.

I am dead serious about this, and am putting everything I've got into it, to the exclusion of all else. I'll use you're advice (which I'll get plenty of chances for, as we normally have 15-20 knot winds through here) I appreciate it.

Also, thanks for getting the site back up so quickly. I know how devastating a compromise can be. :(

Sincerely,

James

Outstanding advice from Ranger EP. I’m 45 and still sing when I run. It’s good company (Two old ladies lying in bed…)

Don’t forget a few days before the PT test don’t push your limit. Push hard on the test. It’s like in two or three days your body is not going to learn what it doesn’t know already.

I sent you a PM,

pile of privates: Nobody here has mentioned the road marches yet so I will, Imagine yourself with a cadilac escalade on you back and lead weights around your ankles and then you might just begin to understand what 12mile of perimeter road is like.

Ranger T0000009,

I'm sorry; I didn't receive the PM for whatever reason.

I do spend a decent amount of time hiking in snow, ice (got to practice my auto-arrest the other day… FUN ;\) etc. I'll spend some time on asphalt and see if that's any worse, but that's one of the few areas I'm not really afraid of screwing up. I've recently traded my beautiful Kelty for a full sized Alice so I can get better used to that.

I'm going to spend new years day @ 14,000 feet if all goes according to plan :)

Thank you though for pointing out another thing to train for. I appreciate it.
