What exactly do you want to know?
A near ambush is a surprise attack by fire from a concealed position on a moving or a temporarily halted target. The enemy commanders' intent to destroy by ambush is usually a supporting effort in accordance with his commanders' main effort.
In a near ambush any surviving elements must immediately assault in the direction of threat. If this can be done to any degree at all the enemy has just failed his commanders' intent. He is now decisively engaged.
The term ambush is a current media favorite. They use it to decribe nearly everything but an ambush.
If there is firing on both sides it is not an ambush.
It's an engagement.
In order to counter an ambush we must know how to conduct one.

Being an MI guy I would think that you of all people would be disinclined to discuss tactics in an open forum. This is niether the time nor the place to discuss tactics currently being employed against our enemies (Who also have access to the internet).

In a near ambush (within hand-grenade range), soldiers receiving fire immediately return fire, take up covered positions, and throw fragmentation concussion, and smoke grenades. Immediately after the grenades detonate, soldiers in the kill zone assault through the ambush using fire and movement.
In a far ambush (beyond hand-grenade range). soldiers receiving
fire immediatly return fire, take up covered positions, and suppress the
enemy

Two words. Pre-Ranger.
Do everything you possibly can to take advantage of this.

good to go
I'm going with swank on this one. Doctrine is one thing and it is essential to know the ideal plan to counter any attack, but, as we all know, no plan survives first contact.
As for RS, you'll learn more about all that shit when you get there. As stated above, Pre-Ranger is an excellent tool. So is LISTENING to you RS Ranger buddy's who are in the know. They can teach you quite a bit if you just take there advice and LISTEN to them.
