Does anyone know the good points and bad points of these two pistols?
Reliability?
Personal experiences?
Good Points/Bad points?
Sig 228 and H&K P7M8
Doc,
I have fired both the P228 and the P7 and both are sweet shooters. Additionally, i carried the P228 U/C for serveral years, actually i had a P225, P228, P226, and P220 to choose from depending on the op. While the P7 shot well on the range, i did not feel comfortable with the grip-cocking mechinism as i felt that, under stress, a A/D could occur very easily. In fact, our Dept. would not authorize the P7 for carry so that ended any further consideration for me.
The P228, as i'm sure you are aware, is a compact and much more concealable version of its big brother the P226 and only gives up a few rounds in capacity. Accuracy was excellent and i only shot better with the P220 (.45). The only down side of the P228 might be that if you have really large hands they may extend beyond the magazine well making it somewhat uncomfortable to grip. Also, although its been several years since i have priced the P7, it was a couple of hundred more that the Sig.
Good luck !

My .02. Save some of your money and buy a Glock. Better choices in calibers, size, and more reliable than anything.

Glock
As a Glock armorer I can tell you that they about the easiest weapons I have ever been around to work on. You can change the trigger pull from 3.5 to 12 pounds in about 10 minutes. Easy to disassemble and put back really all you need is a 3/32 punch and a needle nose pliers. The sights can be changed with only a punch and front sight tool (about $10.00)
I love my 1911 but for a durable, reliable weapon a Glock is hard to beat
